
As I was surfing the net today while researching content for my blog I stumbled upon a very neat website and met with a friendly website owner/operator. What really got my attention was that as soon as I had landed on the home page, the website operator greeted me with a friendly “Welcome to my site… please ask any questions”. Of course, like most people or what I think a normal person would do, I ignored this chat window and continued to peruse this website.
After a minute of browsing through the different areas of the home page I noticed that the list of chat messages was growing in the pop up window and it seemed the person on the other side of that window had made some keen observation about my visit. The message started with a brief “Welcome to my site…please ask any question” and noted the fact that I visited via a link from a specific site and proceeded to ask how my website research was going and about the weather in my city. Although, our conversation was short (I ended the chat with “Thanks, I am just visiting”), it made me think about how useful a live chat tool is in helping to convert potential website visitors into customers.
Live chat is a must have feature for any businesses because if you have products or services to offer and you are available to chat then it is like having a storefront where your customer can ask you questions in real-time.
